The University of the Western Cape (UWC) says the aim of its free HIV testing service is to provide students with support and advice on how to stay healthy.

The Cape Peninsula University of Technology also announced recently that it was rolling out ARV treatment to students at its Bellville campus.

UWC Spokesperson, Gasant Abarder says the programme offers diagnosis and treatment, routine check-ups and referrals for ARVs.

“The University of the Western Cape has an outreach and support programme that incorporates free and confidential counselling and testing. This programme has been in place since 2001. We employ a full-time HIV counsellor and health promoter. We do not dispense ARVs, but we have a partnership with a programme where ARVs are dispensed.”
