Urgent solution required for taxi violence: ANC WC

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The ANC in the Western Cape has called on taxi associations to help find an urgent solution to the current violence in the industry.

This follows the death of at least ten people, mostly drivers, in taxi-related shootings on the Cape Flats in recent days.

The ANC and members of the South African Communist Party (SACP) met with leaders of taxi organisations, Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (Cata) and Congress of Democratic Taxi Associations (Codeta), in Cape Town on Tuesday to discuss how to resolve the violence.

ANC chairperson in the Metro, Xolani Sotashe says, “We saw it fit for us as an alliance to convene this press conference so that we are part of finding the solution on the taxi violence issue that is taking place out there. The loss of one life is too many we cannot afford, whilst we are busy challenging the City of Cape Town to support and empower the taxi industry and then you are experiencing these kinds of incidents so it is our responsibility as the ANC alliance to intervene.”
