Police vans are seen around the Sefateng Chrome Mine near near Burgersfort in Limpopo as communities around the area embarked on a protest on 3 September, 2021.

On Friday August 12 SABC News reported that the communities around Sefateng Chrome Mine near Burgersfort Limpopo had embarked on a protest against the mine in demand of jobs.

The actual fact is that the communities at Tjibeng, Ga- Mampa and Ga-Phasha, prevented a planned protest led by the ANC Youth League in that area.

Community Leader Lot Moloto says the ANC Youth League did not engage them prior to their planned protest. Moloto further says they have a good working relationship with Sefateng Chrome Mine.

“We as the leadership from Tjibeng community, we have never been engaged by the ANC Youth League. We are very upset about that, as the community we are happy with the direction that the mine is moving. You can actually understand that the mine is still growing, we are in support with the mine at the present moment we cannot just say let’s go and march.”
