The Student Theatre Festival kicked off with a theatre performance directed by 21-year-old University of Witwatersrand pupil, Roberto Queiroz. This play delves into the lives of our ‘house administrators’, showing us that maids are more complex and do not only consist of knowing what is the best fabric softener to add in your dirty laundry.

Besides the quirky sense of humour these maids have, the thought-provoking monologues held accounts of women who have lost children and those who abandon their families to look after another. Domestic work is something that can be overlooked even though it is very common for middle class families to make use of these helpers.
