The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) together with other recognised unions at Harmony Gold have concluded and signed a wage agreement.

The agreement will be extended to all other unions or workers whether they are party to the agreement or not. The agreement will be valid from the 1st of July 2021 and will remain in force until the 30th of June 2024.

The new wage deal will enable the lowest paid worker at Harmony Gold to earn an average salary of  R13 478 from R10 478  by the third year of the agreement.

According to the newly signed agreement, lower-level officials will get R1000 or 6% every year for three years.

Miners and artisans will receive 6% on the standard rate of pay every year for the next three years.

In addition, employees will receive increases in their housing and medical allowances.

This is the first time all unions at Harmony Gold have sign on the first day without having to resort to strike action.

Unions say the new wage deal has been ground breaking.
