UNEWU members vow to make E Cape ungovernable

Members of the South African Unemployed Workers Union (UNEWU) in the Eastern Cape have vowed to make the province ungovernable if Premier Phumulo Masualle is recalled by the ANC provincial leadership.

Over the weekend, the ANC Youth League provincial Task Team called on the mother body to recall Masualle and replace him with current chairperson Oscar Mabuyane.

UNEWU president Jabu Ntusi says some of its members have benefited from the Expanded Public Works programme run by Masualle’s government.

He says that they do not recognise the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) elected in a chaotic conference in East London last month.

“We are saying to everyone that project of removing Masualle must stop. It will be their biggest mistake, that is for our province hence we are saying let’s wait for the outcomes of appeals till they finalise and tell us what must be done or start the conference afresh.”
