Uncertainty on whether Zuma will attend a planned prayer meeting

The Jacob Zuma Foundation could not confirm if former President Jacob Zuma will attend Thursday’s prayer event being held for him at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The prayer meeting is to welcome Zuma back after he was sent to jail for 15 months for contempt of court.

In the video below, people have started to arrive for the prayer meeting:

If Zuma does attend, it will be his first public appearance since his arrest in July.

The former President was granted parole after he was admitted to a military hospital for an undisclosed medical condition.

Jacob Zuma Foundation spokesperson Mzwanele Manyi says Zuma’s lawyers are still in consultation with the Department of Correctional Services and his doctors to see if the former President can attend the prayer meeting.

“At this point, we are still consulting lawyers and medical people. So between the lawyers, medical people, correctional services, the discussions are at an advanced stage to give a clear direction. As things still stand right now, I am not able to confirm left or right,” he adds.
