Uncertainty over Khune for Senegal clash

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune, is still doubtful for South Africa’s crucial back to back 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Senegal on Friday and next week Tuesday.

Bafana Bafana, who are bottom of Group D with just four points, will need the experience of the country’s number one keeper for the two upcoming matches in Polokwane and Dakar.

Khune had to be stretchered off in injury time of the Telkom Knock-out quarter-final match after colliding with Chippa United forward Kurt Leintjies. The keeper suffered a bone fracture in his face.

Bafana Bafana’s team doctor, Thulani Ngwenya, has confirmed that Khune will see a specialist on Tuesday morning to determine the extent of his injury.

Khune also missed the back-to-back losses to minnows Cape Verde in September due to a chest infection. Captain Thulani Hlatshwayo is suffering from toe injury but is expected to recover in time for Friday’s match.
