Umalusi withdraws from quality assurance of NCV exams

Phanuel Shuma

Umalusi CEO Dr. Mafu Rakometsi, the education quality watchdog, says the council will no longer oversee the quality assurance of National Certificate: Vocational (NCV) exams or issue certificates to successful candidates.

Umalusi hosted a media briefing on Wednesday, confirming its readiness for the 2025 end-of-year national exams starting next week, 20 October.

However, Rakometsi confirms that Umalusi will continue to ensure quality for Level 4 qualifications.

The council says public and private assessment bodies, including the Departments of Basic and Higher Education, the Independent Examinations Board, and SACAI are all ready to administer the National Senior Certificate and other qualifications.

“The assessment body must ensure the implementation of three levels of moderation for SBA: School level, Cluster level, and Assessment body level. We urge the DBE to speedily finalise the guidelines so that, as a system, we are able to establish the national requirements for the registration of online schools by Provincial Education Departments (PEDs), and b, to indicate the requirements to be met for online schools to be accredited by Umalusi, amongst others,” says Rakometsi.
