They came out in their droves to watch the AmaZulu-Sundowns clash at the Prince Mangosuthu Regional stadium.

The performance of the 40-year-old Nomvethe left many in awe, and inspired his team mates.

Siyamthemba Sithebe, Amazulu forward says: “I know I’m not at my best yet, but I’ll get there. Such performances make us to work even much harder.”

Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, nephew of the founder of Amazulu: “My uncle, king Solomon Kadinizulu, is the founder of Amazulu. He named the team Zulu royal challengers and having such a match here in Ulundi is befitting. As family we are grateful and honoured.”

Sundowns scored a goal in each half, with Nomvethe grabbing a consolation one for the hosts.

Siyabonga Nomvethe, Amazulu forward: “I’m waiting for the coach to give me a chance. These remaining three months of my contract, I want to score asap many goals as I can, all I need is a chance. I’m so hungry for action.”

Manqoba Mngqithi, Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach: “It was a good practice match for us but the players could have done much better in terms of performance.”

With the kind of energy he showed on the field in Ulundi, there is no doubt that Nomvethe will inspire many more for years to come.
