The University of Johannesburg says Dr Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka will help take the institution to greater heights.

Mlambo-Ngcuka will take over as Chancellor from Professor Njabulo Ndebele. She will begin her five-year term in October this year.

Dr Mlambo-Ngcuka has previously held top positions including the UN’s Under-Secretary-General and that of Executive Director of UN Women. She also previously served as South Africa’s Deputy President.

UJ Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Tshilidzi Marwala says, “We are delighted that she will join this dynamic university as our articulate leader. Especially during the times of the fourth industrial revolution, navigating ourselves from the COVID-19 pandemic. I would also like to thank Professor Njabulo Ndebele.”
