Uitenhage speaks out on Human Rights Day

Human Rights 2015 celebrations are taking place in Uitenhage, Eastern Cape and SABC Digital News went into the community to find out what human rights mean to them.

There were mixed views with some expressing the need to remember the struggle for freedom, while others say their lives are difficult and there are not many rights to enjoy.

Human Rights Day is a commemoration of the South Africans who lost their lives during the turbulent Apartheid times.

On the 21st of March 1960, 69 people lost their lives during a protest against pass laws in Sharpeville when the apartheid police opened fire.
