The United Democratic Movement has reiterated its intention to join the African National Congress (ANC) as it approaches the Electoral Court to request for the re-opening of the registration for  election candidates.

The governing party says it couldn’t register some of its candidates for the upcoming local government elections due to problems beyond its control.

All political parties had until 9pm on Monday to submit their candidate lists to the IEC for the polls.

UDM Leader, Bantu Holomisa, says the IEC’s timetable has been unrealistic.

“When we were registering, their system kept on bombing out and we registered during the day. The following day, we wrote a formal letter to the IEC to say we have some glitches on the registration and they came back to reject our request. Other political parties have experienced the same thing. I instructed, therefore, our lawyers to apply to the Electoral Court, especially if the ConCourt doesn’t come back this week to ask the Electoral Court to assist political parties.”
