President of the United Christian Democratic Party (UCDP) Sipho Mfundisi says they plan to re-open abandoned industries should they be elected to power.

He says those industries were built during the Bophuthatswana homeland era.

Mfundisi was addressing members of his party at an electioneering campaign in Phela Village, east of Zeerust in the North West province.

He says small industries in Mafikeng, Mogwase and Rustenburg areas were closed down in 1994, when the Bophuthatswana government was toppled.

Mfundisi says this will help in creating permanent jobs for South Africans.

“Industries like we had in Mogwase have been closed down, the small industries we had in Rustenburg have been closed down. The Sisal factory in Madikwe is not as functional as it used to be. No matter how much it would cost, firms that come to invest in the North West should get tax rebate of some sort. In that case, they will be able to create jobs,” adds Mfundisi.
