Monday marks two years since Pretty Nkambule, Solomon Nyarenda and Yvonne Mnisi were trapped in the Lily Gold mine near Barberton in Mpumalanga.

The three mineworkers were working in a lamproom when the ground caved during a mine collapse.

Amcu will hold a commemorative event at the mine in memory of the three workers whose bodies are still trapped in the mine.

The families of the workers and former mine employees are expected to attend the event. Amcu’s Ehlanzeni Regional chairperson Frans Mkhabela says prospective investors will also be present at the event.

“We plan the commemoration just to show the families of the three missing comrades that they are not alone in this thing we are still together with them secondly we invited some of the investors to come here at Lily mine so that may be they will have interest to help with some capital to reopen the mine as quickly as possible.”
