Two major television stations in Kenya are back on air a week since the government switched them off.

KTN and NTV began broadcasts late Monday  afternoon but Citizen TV has remained off air despite a high court order last week requiring the government to end the shutdown.

There’s no word from the Kenyan government on its decision to partially end the shut down.

The two major TV stations went on air on all the country’s pay TV carriers four days after a high court order requiring the Kenyan government to switch them back on.

The Communications Authority of Kenya last week switched off the stations for broadcasting the mock swearing in of opposition leader Raila Odinga as the people’s president.

The two stations were switched on hours after human rights activist Okiya Omtata, filed contempt of court charges against Interior security minister Dr. Fred Matiang’i, the Communications Authority of Kenya and Communications and ICT minister Joe Mucheru.

Citizen TV and Inooro TV both owned by the Royal Media Services remained off air. It is not clear why the station have not been switched back on.

Last week the Royal Media Services proprietor S.K. Macharia moved to court seeking orders for the government to reinstate the stations as well compensation for lost revenue during the shutdown period. S
