Two suspects have been arrested following a taxi hijacking in Soweto in which three passengers were shot and injured.
The suspects were arrested in Parktown, Johannesburg, after police chased the hijacked minibus taxi and a shootout ensued.
Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says they recovered two firearms used in the hijacking.
He says when police approached the suspects, they started shooting at the police who returned fire.
During the shootout, one of the suspects was injured and later taken to hospital under police guard and the other one was arrested immediately.
The passengers that were injured during the hijacking were taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.
