Two suspected robbers have been fatally wounded and three escaped during a shootout with police at Inanda, north of Durban.
Police spokesperson, Thembeka Mbhele says it’s alleged that the five suspects held up a jewellery store in Ballito on Monday. Mbhele says police traced them to their hideout.
“When police went to Piesang area in Inanda, which is Soweto; as they approached the house that’s when the suspects opened fire at the police. The Police retaliated, fatally wounding 2 suspects.
“During initial investigations the two suspects were found with unlicensed firearms with the serial numbers filed off. And the investigation to the armed robbery still continues and there are attempts under way to trace and arrest the remaining suspects involved in this incident. The firearms that were recovered will be subject to ballistic test to establish whether they were used in connection with any crime in the country or not,” Mbhele explained.
