Two police vehicles torched in Polokwane protest

Protesting residents in Westernburg in Polokwane, Limpopo, have allegedly set alight two police vehicles at a local police station as they continued to protest Tuesday night.

Police say the suspects allegedly cut the police station fence and threw flammable objects setting a police van and a truck on fire.

Residents in the area have been protesting over service delivery since Tuesday morning.

Police spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo says several residents have been arrested on various charges ranging from assault on police, public violence and malicious damage to property.

He says police have arrested eight suspects following the protest.

He says the suspects will appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s court soon on charges of public violence, malicious damage to property and assault on police.
