Two officials working for an independent contractor of the City of Johannesburg will on Monday appear in the city’s magistrate’s court.

The suspects were arrested for allegedly trying to solicit bribes from Auckland Park residents.

The city’s Lucky Sindane says the officials work for a company that provides electricity disconnection services to City Power.

Sindane says they have made it clear before that should they find any contractor whose officials are involved in any illegal activity, they will not hestitate but to terminate their services.

He says: “We are aware that there are quite a number of contractors who approach residents and threaten to disconnect their services and lie that their accounts are in arrears. We would like them to come forward, report it to our anti-fraud and corruption hotline which is 0800002587.”
