The Pietermaritzburg High Court has convicted two men who killed a farmer earlier this month at Vryheid in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

Twenty-three-year-old Sibusiso Mbatha and 21-year-old Ayanda Ncube fatally stabbed Daniel Swanepoel at his farm.

Provincial police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says the suspects also kidnapped Swanepoel’s wife.

Swanepoel was alone at his farm when the suspects stabbed him demanding the credit card and cash from him.

When the victim told the suspects that he doesn’t have any money, they then stabbed him and he died at the scene.

They then waited for his wife to return and they took her to a nearby ATM where they forced her to withdraw money.

The wife managed to alert the neighbourhood watch and one suspect was arrested at the scene and the second suspect was arrested the following day.
