Two construction companies busted for water theft

The City of Johannesburg says it has discovered at least two construction companies that have been stealing water for use on development sites in Midrand, north of Johannesburg.

Three people said to be truck drivers were arrested and appeared briefly in court on Friday.

The city says the theft is costing them millions of Rand in lost revenue.

City Spokesperson, Lucky Sindane says, “Three people were arrested and three trucks were impounded after they were caught stealing about 58 000 litres of water a fire hydrant in waterfall in Midrand. We learned that the truck drivers it is alleged that they are linked to companies like Group 5 and Labucon which are busy with development in the waterfall area. This is not the first time that this has happened in the city.”
