Two children killed, seven others injured in accident in KZN, alleged drunk driver arrested

Two children have been killed and seven others sustained injuries in an accident involving a taxi and a truck on the R103 in Nottingham in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.

Provincial RTI Spokesperson, Zinhle Mali says the taxi driver who was allegedly under influence of alcohol has been arrested.

Mali says the injured children were taken to Northdale Hospital.

“Two schoolchildren died and others sustained serious injuries in a collision involving a taxi. School children were from Nottingham Combined School. It’s alleged that the driver of the minibus was under the influence of alcohol during the time of an accident. He has been placed under arrest at Nottingham SAPS. Two counts of culpable homicide are investigated. At the moment we are diverting traffic around the scene.”

In Limpopo, two people have died after a sedan hit a truck at the rear end on the N1 near Modimolle mountain in Limpopo.

Traffic Spokesperson Mike Maringa says the deceased were the driver and a passenger of the sedan.

Maringa says they suspect speeding as a possible cause of the crash.

A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
