Two children have been killed in a fire that broke out in a stationary vehicle at Nqabeni village, in Harding, southern KwaZulu-Natal.

It’s alleged that the children aged seven and five years old were playing inside the old stationary family vehicle when a fire broke out. KwaZulu-Natal Social Development MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza has urged parents to ensure that children always played under the supervision of adults.

Department spokesperson Mhlabunzima Memela, “But according to the information that we have received is that a fire broke while these two children were playing in that vehicle and family members tried to rescue these children but unfortunately they were unable to save their lives because they were unable to open the doors of this old car. A five-year-old and a seven-year-old girl passed away and the incident happened at around 10 in the morning today.”
