Two suspects have been killed while two others were arrested by police in the Durban CBD after a shootout with the police.

It’s alleged that the suspects were attempting to bomb an ATM on Anton Ledmbede street in the CBD.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Thembeka Mbhele says the two suspects were shot by the police, however, other suspects fled the scene.

Mbhele says police officers received a tip off that a group of heavily armed men in a minibus-taxi and sedan were breaking into the premises on Anton Lembede street as well as in Broadwalk.

He says they were aiming at bombing ATM’s and then stealing from other shops in the area.

He says: “When police approached the suspects a shootout ensued. Two suspects were fatally wounded and a rifle and pistol were seized. Two suspects were arrested and a search of the suspects that fled continues.”
