Police were also notified about a robbery in Rustenburg in the North West. Law enforcement agencies were dispatched to search for the suspects.

Four vehicles, understood to be the getaway cars, were spotted.

Gauteng police spokesperson Kay Makhubele says the suspects sped off in different directions and a high-speed chase and shootout ensued.

“Six suspects were arrested in a Quantum, one in an Iveco and one was arrested in a Ford Ranger and a Lexus was found abandoned with a pistol inside. Upon searching the Iveco, police recovered goods that were reported stolen during an armed robbery of a courier vehicle. No one was reported injured during the shootout.”

Makhubele says other suspects were arrested in the vicinity.

Unlicensed firearms recovered in Germiston

The suspects will be charged with armed robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms, attempted murder as well as possession of stolen property and negligent driving.

They will be profiled to determine if they are not linked to other crimes.
