Twelve Johannesburg police officers to appear in court over corruption charges

Twelve members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) are expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday morning after they were arrested on allegations of corruption at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport on Friday.

Another five officers handed themselves over to the police on Friday evening.

The arrested officers included Warrant Officers, Sergeants and Constables.

The Hawks say the police officials will be facing charges of corruption and racketeering.

Metro police to appear in court over bribe allegations

Meanwhile, 17 traffic officers are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court.

The arrested officers are alleged to have demanded bribes from motorists on the N1, N4 and N14 highways.

They also allegedly asked for bribes along the R21, R80, N12, N17 and R573; better known as Moloto road.
