Miss Universe, Zozibini Tunzi, says the hate messages some people have been posting about her on social media will only serve to deepen her self-worth.
The South African beauty queen was speaking on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.
Tunzi, who hails from the Eastern Cape, was crowned at the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States on December 8.
She says people need to be educated that beauty is being re-defined.
“I’m not mad because it’s just how society has labelled beauty to be. It’s how we’ve been programmed to look at beauty that way, you know, the furthest you are from being fair, the uglier you are, and I just saw it as an educational moment because I remember putting out a post, you know just speaking about it, speaking about colourism, speaking about racism, speaking about how people need to see things in order to start believing in them.”
