Zimbabwe’s opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai says it would not be surprising if first lady Grace Mugabe ran for President.
His statement comes after President Robert Mugabe’s firing of Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa which Tsvangirai says is bound to cause instability in the country.
Tsvangirai was speaking from his hospital bed in South Africa where he is undergoing treatment for colon cancer. He says that the firing of Mnangagwa is bound to cause instability in the country.
However, he says it is also an opportunity to strategise before next year’s presidential elections.
Tsvangirai said Mugabe’s ZANU-PF had failed the country.
“The chances of her taking over emanates from the fact that this is a dynasty arrangement and one would not be surprised if part of that arrangement is to set aside her position in the ruling party. From events that have taken place, Mugabe can make others believe that Grace Mugabe can be a candidate,” says Tsvangirai.
