Truck crash on the N1 in Musina claims four lives, one critically injured

Limpopo Transport Department says a mop-up operation is underway to open the N1 road, where four people died and one other injured in a head-on crash in Musina on Sunday morning.

Limpopo Transport Department Spokesperson, Mike Maringa says two trucks collided head-on near the Baobab tollgate. One of the trucks was smaller than the other.

It is alleged that the driver of the small truck was trying to overtake unsafely when the crash occurred. All the deceased are from the small truck.

Maringa says the driver of the other vehicle has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“Four people died instantly on impact. It includes the driver and three passengers were in the small truck the driver of the heavy motor vehicle survived with serious injuries. The MEC for the Department of Transport and community safety is urging people who are using the N1 to drive with caution and also observe the rules of the road,” says Maringa .
