A tropical storm from Mozambique is likely to bring heavy rains to parts of KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday.

This has prompted the South African Weather Service to issue a level 6 warning for disruptive rainfall that could lead to flooding.

Weather forecaster Wisani Maluleke says rain is expected to begin to clear by Friday.

“I can mention areas like Mbazwana and Coffee Bay which is on the North Coast of KwaZulu Natal, and Makhathini – they receive a lot of rain. In Coffee Bay, we recorded 155 millilitres of rain in six hours and then Mbazwana, we recorded about 77 millimetres of rain and Makhathini 60 millimetres in hours. That’s quite a significant amount of rain which may lead to flooding. So, we are expecting 60% rain tomorrow. But on Friday, the weather will clear completely.”
