Trollip, Mashaba confident to win no confidence motions

Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor Athol Trollip says he’s confident of winning the motion of no confidence against him and Speaker Jonathan Lawack.

The motion has been tabled by PA’s Marlon Daniels. Trollip was addressing hundreds of Democratic Alliance (DA) supporters outside the Port Elizabeth City Hall before the council meeting.

Trollip says the motion is just an attempt to get the African National Congress (ANC) back in power through the back door.

The Economic Freedom Fighters has vowed to support the DA led coalition government as it does not want to hand over power to the ANC.

Meanwhile, the DA in Gauteng says it’s confident that Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba will survive Thursday’s debate on the motion of no confidence against him unscathed.

The ANC is bringing a motion of no confidence against Mashaba and council speaker Vasco Da Gama, citing alleged poor service delivery since a DA-led coalition took control of Johannesburg last year.
