Sandile Mantsoe is accused of killing his girlfriend Karabo Mokoena.

State witness in the Karabo Mokoena murder case, Stephani Leon, says she tried convincing Karabo to leave the accused Sandile Mantsoe. This is after Mokoena sent her pictures of her battered face on Whatsapp after allegedly being beaten up by Mantsoe during an argument.

Leon says she warned Mokoena that the relationship was toxic.  She is the first witness at the High Court in Johannesburg where 27-year-old Sandile Mantsoe is standing trial for murdering Mokoena.

An emotional Leon says she warned her friend that the relationship between her and Mantsoe was toxic. She says a few days after Mokoena’s birthday in March last year, she sent pictures showing her blood-red eye and bruises on her neck.

Leon questioned why Mokoena was still with Mantsoe as such actions showed he did not care about her. She says she was shocked this had happened as following an argument and scuffle she witnessed the night before Mokoena’s birthday, she left them talking and trying to resolve things.
