Former manager of jazz legend Philip Tabane says the country has lost a talented star. Peter Davidson says he still remembers the first time Tabane and his band the Malombo Jazz band performed at the Montreal Jazz Festival.

Davidson says Tabane once shared the stage with the American jazz singer and the first lady of song Ella Fitzgerald during his US tour.

Tabane died at a hospital on Friday after a long illness. Davidson says Tabane and his band earned respect on the international stage.

The funeral service for Tabane will be held in Mamelodi, east of Pretoria, on Saturday the 26th.

Family spokesperson Dr Sello Galane says following the heart-breaking news scores of fans and fellow musicians have been visiting Tabane’s home in Section M, commonly known as D1, to pay their tribute to the legendary musician.

Galane says they have also arranged a memorial service for the jazz legend in Mamelodi on Thursday.
