Traffic officers on strike over working conditions

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Road Traffic Management Corporation says about 120 National Traffic Police officers have embarked on an unprotected strike.

The Corporation says the officers are opposed to them being swapped around.

For instance officers working in the Johannesburg area will be moved to work in Pretoria with a different team.

RTMC’s Simon Zwane says this is done to curb corruption.

He says management cannot accept that employees would resist efforts to improve performance of the corporation and also reorganise the way they work to avoid corruption.

He says: “People are insisting to use old patterns of work so that they can perpetrate their unethical conduct and lack of performance. The strike is not having any impact. There are other agencies that are working on the streets,” adds Zwane.
