The traffic officer, who was kidnapped, robbed and shot while on duty at Makonde, outside Thohoyandou in Limpopo, is in a stable condition in hospital.

Traffic authorities say the officer was alone when he stopped a car with three occupants. They disarmed him at gunpoint and placed him in the boot of his patrol car.

The officer was dumped in the Thathe plantation in Phiphidi. His vehicle was found abandoned in a nearby village.

Spokesperson for Transport and Community Safety Matome Taueatsoala says Community Safety MEC, Makoma Makhurupetje visited him in hospital Sunday night.

He says Makhurupethe condemns the heinous act against the provincial inspector based at the Mutale traffic station.

“He has been stabilised and the perpetrators are still at large and Makhurupethe has promised that no stone will be left unturned until the three suspects are arrested,” says Taueatsoala.

Meanwhile, police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe says the getaway car, the traffic officer’s uniform and an illegal firearm have been recovered.

The traffic officer’s firearm is still missing. He says: “We are calling upon members of the community that whoever has information as to who the suspects are to contact Brigadier Espag on 082 576 0743.”
