A traffic police inspector has been arrested following a bribery scandal in Qwa-qwa in the eastern Free State.

It’s alleged the officer extorted R3 000 from a motorist whose vehicle licence disc expired.

Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) spokesperson, Simon Zwane says they welcome the arrest.

He says officers must learn that the time of using their office uniform to extort money from motorists is coming to an end.

“Those who continue doing this thing will end up in jail.”

“We have seen examples that the courts are also now beginning to take a hard stance on this kind of behaviour,” adds Zwane.
