Traffic volumes have decreased on major roads in the Free State after the initial Easter weekend rush. The traffic peaked on Thursday on the N1, N6, N3 and N5.

Provincial Traffic spokesperson, George Ramotsoto, says they are expecting to see a peak in traffic on Sunday.

“But currently as we speak the volume of traffic has gone down it is very low, it is normal. I think that everybody has arrived at their destination. They were going to churches, visiting their families. So we are not anticipating any high volume of traffic as we move from today (Friday) until Sunday afternoon.”

Motorists driving along the N1 in the Free State say although there is less traffic they are concerned about driving on the rainy weather.

“I’m from Welkom, I’m going to Elliot,  the traffic cops are fine everywhere on the road. It is okay except the rain and everything is fine and we travelled fine and drivers are good,” says one of the motorists.
