South African Tourism says tourists should not cancel their trips to Cape Town as the so-called “water crisis” is not unique to the Western Cape, but is a global issue.

Some tourists have been cancelling their trips, but the organisation is still collecting data on the financial implications as a result of the water crisis.

SA Tourism CEO Sisa Ntshona says travellers have nothing to fear.

Ntshona says, “There’s a sense of fear and all the negative images are seen around the world such as the long queues at water points. So, people are asking the question, ‘should they still come to Cape Town or South Africa?’”

“Cape Town is open for business. We want people to come to Cape Town. However, they need to be aware of the drought situation there and adhere to restrictions. The water crisis is not unique to Cape Town. The likes of Los Angeles, Sao Paulo and Abu Dhabi are facing the same situation.”
