Tornado destroys farms in Mpumalanga

Farmers in the Mkhondo region in Piet Retief Mpumalanga have suffered severe financial loss after Friday’s storm which was confirmed a tornado by the South African Weather Service (SAWS).

Farmer Kurt Paul says the damage on his farm is estimated at R25 million.

He says some of the residents in the area were injured and admitted to hospital.

“Two hundred hectors of pine plantation, about two hundred hectors of the forest was damaged by the tornado and the estimated damage is about R25 million. Also on the neighbour’s farm, there were eight household that were completely demolished and few people were injured and some of the people were even hospitalised,” explains Paul.
