Festive celebrations gripped the Union Buildings crowd that had gathered to witness the inauguration of President Jacob Zuma. Following formal proceedings, a line-up of top artists, which boasted the likes of Uhuru, Zahara, and Mafikozolo among others, turned the Union Buildings into a sea of festivities.
Young Praise Poet, Botlhale Boikanyo, who mesmerised the nation when she won SA’s Got Talent competition in 2012, also took to the stage – much to the appreciation of the jovial crowd. Reciting former President Nelson Mandela’s tribute, Boikanyo did not disappoint, with loud cheers from the crowd.
Yvonne Chakakaka, Zahara, Rebecca Malope and The Soil were some of the artists that took to the stage first, warming the crowd up for the likes of Mafikozolo. Award-winning Bhuti Mina Ngihamba Naweby Mafikizolo and Uhuru’s Y-tjukutjasent the crowd into a frenzy.
Earlier in the day, the Silver Falcons’ aerobatic team executed a spectacular display at the Union Buildings on Saturday for Jacob Zuma’s second presidential inauguration. Flying in formation, 19 Silver Falcons created the number 20 in the skies above Pretoria to commemorate the 20th anniversary of South Africa’s democracy.
