Tobacco fighters unite in Cape Town

Global Key figures in the fight against tobacco use have gathered in Cape Town as part of the 17th World Conference on Tobacco or Health themed – ‘Uniting the World Conference for Tabacco Free Generation.’

World Health Global Ambassador for Non- communicable Diseases Michael Bloomberg has called on countries to amend certain policies in an effort to stop the use of tobacco.

Over the next two days academics, scientists and policy makers will be discussing what needs to be done to secure a tobacco free generation.

Bloomberg says seven million people die every year as a result of tobacco use.

Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has also added his voice to the moment; Motsoaledi says South Africa needs to amend policies regarding tobacco use which starts by removing smoking areas in public places.
