Newly appointed Chippa United head coach Eric Tinkler has pleaded with his players to focus, and avoid conceding unnecessary goals if they wish to end up in the top eight of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) log.

Tinkler hopes to turn the fortunes of the Chilli Boyz around. The team is currently 16th on the log with just a single point.

The Port Elizabeth based outfit has already lost two opening games against Bloemfontein Celtic, and Orlando Pirates.

The well-travelled Tinkler is drawing on his coaching experience to instil positive energy at the club.

The team has also been boosted by the return of striker Rhulani Manzini. He was on loan to Amazulu FC.

“It’s good to be back but the PSL is very tough. But I know that I can help the team. But I need to adjust to new training methods that the coach has introduced to us. But we are working hard at training. It’s good to be back, Chippa United is my home,” says Manzini.

Chippa has a number of young players who also want to make their mark in the PSL.

Tinkler is upbeat after a spirited performance in their last game against Supersport United.

“The spirit in the team is good, guys are enjoying themselves, players are still adjusting to my new training methods, we will come up with positve results in due time , football is a funny game we just need to clinch three points then we are up in the log, but i am confident of my players as we didnt play too badly in our last game.”

The Chilli Boyz take on Baroka FC next weekend in East London.
