Thursday is the last day for motorists to renew their expired driving licence cards.
This applies to those whose licences expired between March the 26th 2020 and August the 31st 2021.
Road Traffic Management Corporation spokesperson Simon Zwane says there will be no further extensions of the deadline.
“People who have not yet renewed their licence they must start making their way to the licencing centres. Just for their convenience, the centres have extended their hours of operation, many of them until 6pm, but there are two in Gauteng RTMC (Road Traffic Management Corporation ) offices that open from 7am to 9pm Monday to Monday.”

1.3 million expired driving licence cards still need to be renewed: Mbalula
Mbalula was briefing the media at the Grasmere Toll plaza, south of Johannesburg, in March this year.
There is only one week left before the final deadline for the extended grace period for the renewal of driving licence cards that expired between March 2020 and August 2021.
Mbalula said, “There are currently 1.3 million expired driving licence cards, yet to be renewed. To deal with this, hours at DLTCs (Driver License Testing Centres) will be extended, including operating on Saturdays and Sundays, until the 31st of May. Walk-ins will be allowed meaning motorists showing up at DLTCs to renew their licences will not be turned away for not booking online.”
