Three killed in Cape Town fire

Three people have died in Cape Town’s Masiphulelele informal settlement in Fish Hoek. This brings to seven the number of people who have died in separate fire incidents in the past 24 hours in the Metro.

A spokesperson for the City’s Fire and Rescue Services Jermaine Carelse says firefighters responded to the scene in Houmoed street on Monday morning.

“The City’s Fire and Rescue received an emergency call of informal structures in Houmoed Street Masiphumelele four fire fighting appliances, a rescue vehicle and 19 stuff members managed to contain and extinguish the fire just before 6h00; whilst clearing the debris three bodies were found burnt beyond recognition, the scene was secured and handed over to the South African Police Service.”
