Three elderly E Cape women get temporary shelter

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Human Settlements Minister Nomaindia Mfeketo has handed over three temporary structures to three elderly women who were living in appalling conditions in Duncan village near East London.

President Cyril Ramaphosa noticed their situation while visiting the township before he delivered the ANC’s January 8 Statement.

Mfeketo says preparations are under way to ensure that the rest of the people of the village get proper housing.

“Something must be done with Duncan Village. We’ve taken a decision as the three spheres, the mayor, MEC and myself that we’ll hold hands and make sure that Duncan Village develops sooner rather than later. We’re not going to cut anybody. People who are staying here must be accommodated.”
