Police have arrested three suspects in possession of unlicensed firearm and explosives at Greenfield informal settlement in Hammanskraal, North of Pretoria.

Police received a tip off. Spokesperson Sarah Lesabane, says they have sized two pistols, ammunition and explosives.

Police say the three are likely to be linked with robberies and other crimes in the area. Lesabane confirmed that the guns and explosives have been sent for ballistic tests.

The trio are expected to appear before Moretele magistrate court on December 29, facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and explosive.

More than 700 suspects arrested in Gauteng during the weekend for various crimes. A policeman was among more suspects.
