Umkhosi weLembe honours the legacy of AmaZulu founder King Shaka Zulu.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the annual Umkhosi weLembe, formerly known as Shaka’s Day, at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Sunday.  The event which usually coincides with Heritage Day was postponed in September following the death of one of the sons of the AmaZulu King Goodwill Zwelithini.

Prince Butho Zulu died after a short illness. The event honours the legacy of AmaZulu founder King Shaka Zulu.

The AmaZulu King and the royal family will be joined by various members of the KwaZulu-Natal provincial legislature and traditional leaders.

“It’s a big day for the Zulu nation. We will commemorate King Shaka as it usually takes place in September of each year, but it was postponed due to the passing away of the royal family member. We are expecting Amabutho and the whole nation together in Moses Mabhida Stadium,” AmaZulu-Royal House Spokesperson Prince Thulani Zulu.
