Team Sky’s Geraint Thomas of Wales won the 2018 Criterium du Dauphine cycle race in France with an advantage of one minute.
Britain’s Adam Yates of the Mitchelton Scott team claimed victory on stage seven and finished second overall.
The final stage of the Criterium was 136 kilometres long with four category one climbs.
Yates waited until 150 metres to go to make his move, flying past France’s Romain Bardet and then Spain’s Daniel Navarro on the finish line.
Thomas finished fifth, winning the Criterium, one of the traditional warm-up races to the Tour de France.
Thomas’ victory was all the more impressive, given that he had crashed on the prologue.
South Africa’s Daryl Impey of the Mitchelton Scott team saw off Dan Martin of Ireland and Thomas to claim the green jersey in the points classification.
Impey won stage one and finished third on stage two.
