This was not a lucky win – Da Gama

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Highlands Park made it two out of two Absa Premiership wins when they defeated Baroka FC 2-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.

Peter Shalulile scored a brace in the second half opening in the 64th minute and closing nine minutes later.

The visitors dominated the first half with shots from Shalulile and Mthobi Mvala, but those were only attempts.

Baroka‘s consolation came from a Collins Makgaka free kick in the 77th minute. Highlands coach Owen Da Gama says this was not a lucky victory.

The Lions of the North moved up to eighth position on the log tied on the same number of points with four other sides but with a game in hand.

The coach also praised Shalulile’s performance that earned him a ‘Man of the Match’ award saying the striker is never under pressure from the coaches.

Baroka slipped to a spot behind Highlands on the table tied on eight points from six outings. Coach Wedson Nyirenda was not pleased with his charges saying everyone was flat on the day.

Nyirenda also believes his players were overconfident coming from their previous game’s victory over provincial rivals Black Leopards.

The coach adds that his players need to be proactive in defending. – Report by Lethabo Kganyago
